What Is Your Day Like In Boarding School?

When I tell people I attend boarding school, many of them usually ask me what's it like there. Some assume the students live in the school all year round, some automatically assume we must be very studious, while others are just curious as to what life is actually like in a boarding school.

Those who have been to boarding schools before imagine we go home on weekends, but as a day student who doesn't live on campus all year round, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Waking up in boarding school is an experience. It's not like waking up in your bed, with the sun shining through your window, and your parents downstairs making breakfast.

It's different. You get woken up by a bell at 6:00 am, and you have to wake up and get ready for breakfast in a dormitory full of other people who are also trying to wake up. And then you have thirty minutes to eat breakfast and get ready for class.

Some kids are good at getting ready quickly, but others aren't so lucky. If you're one of the unlucky ones, you have to do all this stuff before classes start—and then you'll be late for your first class!

Before the start of the day, we have breakfast. Most days it's cereal and toast, but other days we can have eggs or pancakes. The teachers are always cooking something up for us! It's nice to know that they care about our food as much as they care about our education.

Morning classes at boarding schools are typically held from around 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There are usually two breaks during the day, including one for lunch and another for an afternoon snack.

Classes are taught by teachers who live on campus in dormitories and apartments, or by teachers who commute from their homes and stay in a nearby hotel.

We have a whole bunch of snacks that we can choose from: chips, cookies, fruit, and sometimes even ice cream! After we eat our snacks, we get to go outside and play for 15 minutes. We can play on the playground or just run around the school grounds. It's so much fun!

After morning exercises, we have lunch. The cafeteria is big and there are lots of tables for us to sit at. There are also a lot of different kinds of food to choose from. Sometimes, though, I get some yoghurt and a banana because I don't like the other stuff.

The afternoon at boarding school is like the morning, except the teachers are different.

In the afternoon, you go to classes with your friends and do fun things like math and science.

Evening meals are a social event in boarding school life. The students take their seats at the table and are served by the kitchen staff.

It is a chance to catch up with friends and enjoy some delicious food.

Boarding school gives you a lot of opportunities to try new things and make friends.

School life is fun and exciting, but it can also be hard work. Like anyone else with a busy schedule, boarders make sure they get enough sleep, find ways to relax and prioritize the activities that give them the most enjoyment.
