Your pre-forty-five-year-old self may or may not have made fitness a priority in your life. Maybe you lived a more “laid-back” lifestyle. Skating by on your natural ability to eat whatever you want and maintain a healthy weight. Whether or not you’ve actually been healthy is for another article.

Perhaps you have made fitness a priority over the years and worked hard in the gym daily. Each week spending hours in the gym, or cross fit studio, or even on the treadmill or elliptical, grinding out those dreaded HIIT sessions. All in the name of achieving that esthetically pleasing look. In the process you find yourself ending your days in utter exhaustion, crawling to bed in hopes of getting just a few hours of sleep. Sleep that you have found to be a fleeting idea at this point in your life, for whatever reason.

What you are missing is energy.

There it is. The missing ingredient — energy. I promise, if you alter your training and chase energy instead of the goal of looking your best, you will find all day energy, and that esthetically pleasing look that you long for.

Adjusting your training to meet your requirements will yield incredible results. Professional athletes train with a very specific goal in mind. Olympic sprinters are some of the most athletic people on earth and they do not simply go out on the track and run. They train to meet not only their goals, but their needs. They spend a great deal of their training time on building muscle mass, building power, strengthening and stretching all muscle groups needed for a fast, successful sprint. They do not train like a bodybuilder. This keeps the sprinter free of pain, injury and ensures they have energy left in the tank for track days. Did you see it? That magical word again — energy.
