Life is full of twists and turns. Choices, decisions, friends, and business partners to be chosen or rejected are all part of life.

Although the Tarot is not a solution to all of life’s problems, it can help. To help trust our gut.

Our gut feeling is simply intuition. Everybody has it. But some of us don’t know how to use it. The Tarot cards can “nudge” our intuition to better understand and decide.

They are widely used to give insight into a question, situation, person, or choice. Job offer, new relationship, travel plans? The Tarot won’t answer questions like whether there is life after death. But it can help in everyday doubts and hesitations.

To use them, they need to be understood.

The easiest way to learn the cards’ meanings is to study them. Look at the illustrations, what is going on, and compare one card to another.

One way to do this is to pull a card in the morning and look at it at the end of the day. Was the unfurling of the day like the one given by the card’s symbols?

The other way is to pull a card in the morning. Carry it around during the day and take a peek once in a while.

There are loads of books and decks. But for a beginner, simple is better. And the methods described above are more personal.

When choosing a deck, one that “speaks” to us is the best choice. Looking at examples on the internet can help.

Then there is the question of the number of cards to use. The deck is divided into two. The Major Arcana cards reflect the passage of time during life’s journey and monumental influences. The Minor Arcana cards represent more mundane matters. The entire deck can be consulted or just the Major Arcana.

As for shuffling the deck, a traditional shuffle like one used for a normal deck of cards is fine. Or jumbling up the cards and letting one drop.

One card will usually do the trick. If its meaning is unclear, pulling another card can help to clarify.

The card pictured above is an example of how a card may have different meanings. The World is the final card of the Major Arcana. The end of the journey of life or the beginning of a new chapter. On the face of it, the image suggests nirvana, satisfaction, and achieved or future dreams. A “yes” card.

But is it? It can also have a negative connotation. A person who is self-absorbed. Selfish. Vain. A one-sided relationship. A person or situation to be avoided.

Any card can confirm a positive or a negative “gut feeling.” But since this particular card is generally considered to be a positive card, another one should be pulled in case of doubt. If the second card is a positive one, it will confirm the positive meaning of the first and the answer is positive. If it is negative, it will cancel it out and the answer is negative.

It is up to us to interpret the Tarot cards as we see them. Once we have learned their meanings, they will help us to use our intuition. To confirm our gut feeling.

Uncertainty is no longer an impediment to living our life to the fullest. And that alone makes the Tarot a useful tool.
